Can You Hear Me Now, This Is Planet Earth
Happy Friday Friends.
In 1981 Duran Duran sang:
“Can you hear me now?
This is planet earth,
You’re looking at planet earth”
There has never been a more important time to listen!
Earth Day is tomorrow, so happy Earth Day for tomorrow, earthlings!
The movement began in 1970 when factories and industry belched out smoke and air pollution was seen as a sign of prosperity.
Today, Earth Day is globally marked by more than a billion of us every year. It’s a day to focus on the action needed to reverse damage caused to the environment and human health and the natural world including biodiversity and animal species. It’s a day that creates awareness and encourages us all to mobilise with more urgency to solve the climate crisis and create a better, cleaner environment for the future.
That all sounds a bit on the heavy side though don’t it?
And that might just be the problem with getting many people to see the opportunities they have to make a difference and feel they can get involved.
It’s very hard to persuade people to make massive changes to their behaviour when there struggling to pay there brutal gas and electric bills during this triple energy crisis and the cost of living spirals out of control.
But as I hope you will see in the book I haven’t written yet but someday might, The Pragmatic Environmentalist shows easy, meaningful, achievable in time and cost ways to make a difference.
Sir Dave has said many amazing things about the natural world and the planet not least this:
“Humans are the greatest problem solvers to have ever existed on Earth. In my lifetime I‘ve witnessed a terrible decline, in yours, you could and should witness a wonderful recovery”
Sir Dave as you know, is and has been, always right. Us humans are completely incredible, we are capable of so much. Human endeavour is powerful.
At Syntech Biofuel we’re changing the story massively. The need to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and decarbonise the energy we use is critical now and our biofuel is literally doing just that. With 86% less greenhouse gas emissions we are literally making the air less polluted. Go us
But what could you do with minimal effort? You could always take the easy option to pretend to care for the environment. It’s easy, post a picture on Instagram with you and a bag for life or kissing a tree and use the hashtag #earthday2023. That still contributes to spreading awareness.
Or, starting tomorrow, why not try to do little things, easy things and then do them over and over again.
Enjoy a meat free Monday, buy a compost bin for the garden (bonus! Free compost), pick up a piece of litter when you walk past it, better still organise a local litter pick with mates and neighbours, recycle your waste, make better use of the local council re-cycling centres (it’s amazing what they take), donate your old clothes to charity, or from the comfort of your own home, watch an environmental docco on Netflix to learn more.
Do Something!
So it might seem a trivial celebration day but we have to start somewhere and if each of us play our part we will make a real difference I promise you.
Thanks for reading, Have a beautiful weekend.
Mike.
